A brief history of Google company
A whole world uses the services of the giant Google. In the lines below, we briefly present the evolution of the company, from its foundation to the present.
Google history
1995 – 1996
Founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin met at Stanford University in 1995. In 1996, the two founded a search engine, initially called BackRub.
1998
The two founders change the name of the search engine to "Google" a variation of the mathematical term "googol" which defines the number with the value 1 followed by 100 zeros.
2000
Google creates AdWords, an integrated program for creating online promotion campaigns.
2004
Google launches Gmail, the free online email service.
2004 – 2005
In 2004 Google acquires the digital mapping company Keyhole, and in 2005 it launches Google Maps and Google Earth.
2006
Google acquires the video sharing platform YouTube. Today, 60 hours of video content are uploaded to this platform every minute.
2007
Google announces the launch of Android - a free platform for mobile devices.
2008
Google officially launches the Chrome browser on September 2, 2008.
2012
In 2012, Google's market capitalization made it one of the largest US companies not listed in the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
2015
In August 2015, the company was reorganized as a subsidiary of the Alphabet Inc. holding company.
Today over 70% of online searches worldwide are managed by Google, placing the company at the center of the experience of most Internet users.
